Leadership & coaching skills

Did you know that a major factor in your business and life success is your Emotional Intelligence? In fact, studies of star performers show that 85% of what sets them apart from average performers is superior EI skills. Emotional Intelligence is emerging as the single most effective business tool of the new century. This course will look at some of the key EI factors that play a vital role in your success.

You will:

  • Investigate your emotional intelligence and receive a detailed profile report of your strengths and areas for development
  • Look at the role of the leader
  • Look at current coaching techniques and how they could benefit you and your organisation

Programme Outline

Theme 1

What is Emotional Intelligence and how can it help you?

Evidence consistently shows that Emotional Intelligence is what makes the difference between superior performance and average performance in individuals. We will look at:

  • Intrapersonal intelligence - what is going on inside you?
  • Interpersonal intelligence - how do you pick up what is going on inside others?

Theme 2

A comparison of coaching and leadership

  • What is current thinking on the above areas?
  • What are the latest trends in coaching and leadership training?

Individual effectiveness

We will look at your level of emotional intelligence in depth, focusing on 16 scales:

Theme 3

Life position scales

  • Self-regard - how much do you value yourself?
  • Regard for others - how do you accept others?

Theme 4

Awareness scales

  • Self-awareness - how well are you in touch with your body & feelings?
  • Awareness of others - how sensitive are you to the state of others?

Theme 5

Self-management scales

  • Emotional resilience - how well do you recover if things go wrong?
  • Personal power - how well are you in charge of your life and decisions you make?
  • Goal focus - is your behaviour related to your goals?
  • Flexibility - how well can you change your thinking to adapt to different situations?
  • Personal openness - how well do you make positive connections with other people?
  • Trustworthiness - how much do others trust you?

Theme 6

Relationship management scales

  • Trust - how easily do you trust others?
  • Balanced outlook - how optimistic are you?
  • Emotional expression and control - how well do you express your feelings and how well do you control this?
  • Conflict handling - are you a passive, aggressive or assertive communicator?
  • Interdependence - how much do you rely on others?
  • Self assessed EI - how accurate is your self-assessment?

Using the above scales, we will look at how each of them can be applied to leadership and management coaching. The tools will be used to develop your levels of authenticity, integrity and your listening skills and will help to make you more aware of how others see you.
